At The Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Business and Management two positions as PhD fellow within the field of innovation management with a focus on Danish/European and Chinese/Asian perspectives. The PhD fellowships are open for appointment from 1st September 2011 or as quickly as possible.
Job description
The two positions are part of the Aalborg University based Innovation Management Theme under the Sino-Danish Centre (SDC).

B. Innovation/Innovation Management, Culture and Global Mindset
The two positions aim to strengthen the research and teaching capacities within the field of international innovation/innovation management. The two PhD positions will have Denmark and China as their primary empirical basis.
The first position will focus on radical innovation initiatives in established firms and how such initiatives can help to ensure competitiveness
The second position is based on the notion that “cultural diversity” is an antecedent to innovation. The PhD-project is expected to focus on how internationalisation of companies and in particular how culture and the global mindset of companies intertwine with innovation capabilities and the way innovation is managed.
The two positions aim - through the attachment to the Sino-Danish Center in Beijing - to strengthen the research and teaching capacities within the field of innovation management at Aalborg University and at the Graduate University of the China Academy of Sciences (GUCAS).
The applicants will be enrolled at the PhD School of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Aalborg University and will be attached to the Centre for International Business, Department of Business and Management. The two positions will also be attached to the Sino-Danish Centre (SDC) in Beijing. It is an integral part of the positions to conduct studies in China in conjunction with Chinese scholars; take part in SDC activities in China for minimum half a year during the three years of the PhD-period, including teaching, and the PhD-student will have a Danish lead supervisor and a Chinese support supervisor.
Qualification requirements
The
PhD scholarship has a duration of three years. Applicants to the PhD
scholarship must hold a degree equivalent to a Danish Master’s degree.
Applicants enrolled at a Danish Master programme who expect to graduate
before the date of appointment must forward a copy of their
specialekontrakt and documentation for the date of their final exam.
The
completion of the scholarship will be in accordance with the
Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities No 18 of 14
January 2008, and it is a prerequisite for allocation of a scholarship
that enrolment as a PhD student at the PhD School of Social Sciences
takes place.
According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed every six months. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation.
The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the assessment committee, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences will make a decision for allocating the stipend.

Applications for enrolment and allocation of scholarship must enclosed the following:

personal statement, including the motives for the application, the
ability to carry out the project (scientifically and personally) as well
as ability to integrate theory and practice in research work.
An
indication of which of the two positions the applicant is applying for.

A
preliminary project description (approx. 5 pages in Danish A4 format)
giving a brief reflection of how the applicant would address the issues
outlined under the topic(s) chosen.
Information on which language the PhD thesis is expected to be written in.
Applicant's curriculum vitae.
A copy of the applicant's Master's degree certificate.
A copy of the applicant's Master's degree thesis and published articles (if any).
Two references informing about the applicant's personality and professional capabilities.
Foreign
applicants must forward verified IELTS test (International English
Language Testing System). Exempted are applicants with a Master's Degree
from Denmark, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia and
Canada.
If publications that
have been written in cooperation with others are submitted, a
declaration from each of the authors must be enclosed. The declaration
must state the extent of the applicant’s contribution to the total work
and be signed by the authors.
The applicants should be prepared to participate in an interview with researchers from Aalborg University.

Appointment
and salary in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment
of Academic Staff at Universities No 284 of 25 April 2008 and The
Ministry of Finance Circular concerning the job structure for academic
staff at universities of 13 June 2007. Salary will be in accordance with
the agreements in force.
