Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) Graduate School Information Management and Market Engineering offers Doctoral Scholarships at the Graduate School (Graduiertenkolleg) Information Management and Market Engineering to applicants with an interest in the School’s interdisciplinary research focus on electronic markets and services:
The Graduate School is a joint program by the departments of economics, business administration, computer science, and law of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), formerly Universitt Karlsruhe (TH). Alongside their PhD research, scholars attend relevant courses and carry out joint research in the framework of an interdisciplinary seminar. The working language within the School is English, and theses may be written in either English or German.
Financed by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft - DFG), the scholarships amount to € 1.468,- per month for 30 months; in addition research and travel funds and – if applicable – teaching funds will be provided. Depending on a student’s academic background and research topic, the degree of Dr. rer. pol., Dr. rer. nat., Dr.-Ing., or Dr. iur. (the latter in cooperation with the law faculty of Universitt Freiburg) may be awarded.
Both current PhD students and alumni have appreciated the interdisciplinary nature of the Graduate School. Recent research of members of the Graduate School covers, for example, the role of news in financial markets, auction-based approaches to controlling traffic flows, the trade-off between privacy and efficiency in electricity markets, as well as both technical and economic questions related to the next generation internet. A large share of students has an international background. Having completed their PhD, alumni of the School have shown to be successful both in industry and academia and have built a strong network within and beyond the Graduate School.
