We are interested in molecular aspects of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), in particular the involvement of epigenetic mechanisms in the initiation and propagation of epileptic seizures.
A major focus will be on the role of specific neuropeptides (Neuropeptide Y, Dynorphin and Neurokinin B) and their modulation by epigenetic mechanisms in human temporal lobe epilepsy. Projects involve epigenetic analyses in animal models of temporal lobe epilepsy as well as investigation of human specimen obtained from TLE surgeries.
Techniques and methods
DNA methylation, histone acetylation and chromatin analysis, ChIP techniques, transcription assays, behavioral testing and animal models of temporal lobe epilepsy, in situ hybridization and immunohistochemical analyses of epigenetically active enzymes
The project is part of the EuroEPINOMICS network with a focus on “Epigenetic pathomechanisms promoting epileptogenesis in focal and generalized epilepsies”. (EpiGENet) . Candidates must have the ability to work in an international environment, show organizational skills, and be driven by an interest in a multidisciplinary research setting.
