There is an open position, starting in Fall 2011, for either Post-doc (18 months contract, with a possibility of a short extension) or PhD (36 months contract) working within InfoLab on a European funded project on Mobility Data Management.
InfoLab is active in database management, knowledge discovery and data mining, pattern representation and management, mainly focusing on the subject of space- and time- aware information and knowledge.
Requirements:
We are looking for a candidate who meets the following requirements:
* a completed PhD (for the Post-doc position) or Msc (for the PhD
position) in Computer Science;
* knowledge of data management / data mining and interest in spatial
and mobility databases, location-based services, location- and mobile-
social networking;
* expertise in realizing research ideas in terms of software;
* excellent communicative skills in English, both in speaking and in
writing (though the Univ. Piraeus in Greek speaking, the communication
can fully be in English);
* love for traveling and exchanging ideas with other research groups;
* during the contract, the candidate should be prepared to work within
InfoLab at Univ. Piraeus and live in Piraeus (the port of Athens) or
the wider Athens metropolitan area.
Appointment and salary:
Gross monthly salaries are as follows: 1500 euros (for the Post-doc
position),
1000 euros (for the PhD position). In terms of tax bureaucracy, the
candidate will operate as a freelancer, and tax reduction for
freelancers in Greece is currently at 20% rate.

During the recent years, InfoLab has been presenting an increasing
experience in European R&D projects, with FP6/FET GeoPKDD
(Geographic Privacy-aware Knowledge Discovery; 2005-08; www.geopkdd.
eu), FP7/FET MODAP (Mobility, Data Mining, and Privacy; 2009-12;
www.modap.org) , and ESF/COST MOVE (Knowledge Discovery from Moving
Objects; 2009-13; http://move- cost.info/), being the most relevant to
this open position. Currently, the team consists of 2 faculty members, 3
post-doc researchers, and several PhD and MSc students.
