Course Description
This course is a survey of American literature from the American Renaissance to the present and is designed to provide insight into the cultural construction of "America" from the perspective of its writers.

Course Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students should know:
  1. to look upon American literary texts with a critical eye
  2. the literary history of America from the American Renaissance to the present
  3. selected texts of American literature from the American Renaissance to the   present
  4. selected theories of American literature
  5. major figures and developmental trends in American literature
