THE IDEA
The content of the programs at DRH Lindersvold take their point of departure from essential issues of mankind and our planet, and as such, are of immediate relevance to those who join our program.
A rural area of sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia or the slums of Maputo is the place that many of The Poor call home. The geography of poverty was formed not by infertility of soils, lack of minerals or inferior ingenuity of people, but by a chain of historic events that take us back some 500 years. On top of this, structural adjustment programs initiated over the last 60 years, mean less spending on education, health care and other social services by governments leading to The Poor being marginalized even more – he lacks food, school for his children, work, a good house. Additionally global warming brought about by wasteful use, ignorance and greenhouse gasses contribute to this devastating reality with alarming frequency as floods, earthquakes and hurricanes wreak even more havoc for The Poor.
Every individual around the world should be able to enjoy freedom from extreme poverty and hunger; quality education, productive and decent employment, good health and shelter; the right to give birth without risking their lives. A world where environmental sustainability is a priority, and women and men live in equality.
Each human being, in order to fulfill one of the absolute meanings of life must contribute to the transformation of society, of ‘les conditions humaines’, based on those conditions that every generation has inherited from history. Each generation makes history during a period of time that it can call now. For us at DRH Lindersvold, that time is now. It is thus now that the changes that this generation, our generation, will be remembered for, must be made.
DRH Lindersvold offer unique opportunities to face some of the necessities of our times, with action and solidarity with The Poor of our world. Our programs contain the training of essential life skills, not only for development work in Africa, but for living a meaningful life in the 21st century. Taking part in the programs include a vast array of goals, ambitions and action. It is about ensuring the experiences you gain have a lasting impact on the people whose lives you touch. It is about creating peace and development between people by being honest, open and incorruptible. It is about deciding to learn new things, being constantly curious and interested in knowing the latest on current events, world politics and scientific progress. It is essentially about working on common ground together, helping to secure the ability of others to be productive in society. Coming together with many likeminded people can make the above a reality.
SHORTLY ABOUT THE SCHOOL
Lindersvold is located on South Zealand, one of Denmark''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s islands, about one hours drive from Copenhagen, and one and a half hour from the harbor that connects Denmark with Germany. Lindersvold is reachable by car or with public transport from all the directions. The closest train station is Faxe Ladeplads.
By walking for only ten minutes you can enjoy the wonderful view of the sea, and the school is surrounded by a beautiful park.
PROJECTS
DRH Lindersvold works together with projects of Humana People to People in a wide range of developing countries. Dependent upon availability, there are possibilities to work with the following projects:
Teacher Training Colleges – focused on educating teachers for rural areas
Vocational Schools for young people
Community work to promote sanitation and hygiene in rural areas
Community with special emphasis on farming
Raising funds for social projects by forming partnerships and selling second hand clothes and shoes
HIV & AIDS awareness and prevention
