Charles Dickens is very important English novelist, generally considered the greatest of the Victorian period. Dickens’s works are characterized by attacks on social evil, injustice and hypocrisy. He had also experienced oppression in his youth, when he was forced to end school in early teens and works in a factory. But I would like to begin with some biographical data.
Charles Dickens was born in Landport, Hampshire , in a family guided by his father’s recklessness and lack of practical mindedness. Soon, his father was imprisoned for debt and Dickens was forced to get a job in a shoe- dyeing factory, like I have mentioned earlier. He considers his father’s arrest like the most terrible experience of his life.
At fifteen, Dickens eventually returned to school, but because his financial problems were not over, he first got a job as a clerk in a law firm, and later he became a reporter.
