The Helsinki School of Economics (HSE) is the largest and leading business school in Finland. We produce international research of high standard, provide teaching based on this research, and serve business and society.
HSE is an innovative and lively community of about 4,000 students and over 400 researchers, teachers and service personnel. Its main building is centrally situated in Toolo in Helsinki.

1919 Liikesivistysrahasto, the Foundation for Economic Education, founded
1922 First MSc graduate (Aksel Edvard Hollander 10.3.1922)
1937 First Doctor`s degree in Nordic Business Schools (Vilho Nurmilahti 9.10.1937)
1938 Helsinki Research Institute for Business Administration founded
1939-40 and 1941-42 the School closed due to war
1945 HSE was granted the right to the conferment of academic degrees
1946 First conferment of academic degrees
1946 Basic degree prolonged from 2 to 3 years
1948 Construction work for new main building started
1950 New Main Building inaugurated
1950 New law to guarantee 70% state support of HSE expenditure
1950 First Chancellor Antti Tulenheimo appointed
1965 Department for Basic Research started (Perustutkimuksen laitos)
1967 The HSE Publication series started
1968 Beginning of Prodec, project for development cooperation
1968 First computer IBM-1130 introduced at HSE
1970 Chydenia building inaugurated for HSE
1970 Beginning of JOKO, Continuing Education Program for Executives
1972 Beginning of a formal Doctoral Program
1972 First courses during summer period introduced
1973 Cooperation started with EIASM
1974 HSE became state university, financial responsibility to state of Finland
1974 Creation of the HSE Foundation (Tukisti) and the HSE Endowment Funds(Korkeakoulun rahastot)
1977 Renewal of degree structure, MSc (Econ.) introduced
1977 HSE library becomes central library for economics and business sciences in Finland
1980 Small Business Center in Mikkeli established
1983 International Center established and extensive student exchange program started
1983 International MBA Program launched
1989 International BBA Program introduced in Mikkeli
1991 Systematic evaluation processes for teaching introduced
1991 The HSE Career Services Center established
1993 Business Project Services started in organised form
1993 Doctoral Program re-organised with more strict rules for admission and exit
1994 English Track leading to MSc Degree in English language introduced
1995 Renewal of degree structure, BSc (Econ) re-introduced
1996 JOKO Executive Education Ltd. was set up (former name Helsinki Business School Training Services Ltd) to take care of Executive Education
1997 HSE Holding Ltd and applied research company LTT Research Ltd were set up
1997 AMBA accreditation received for the International MBA Program
1998 EQUIS accreditation received
1998 HSE became member of CEMS
2000 HSE Executive Education Pte Ltd started in Singapore and the Partnership Program started
2001 HSE became full member of PIM and the BscBA degree programme started in Mikkeli
2002 AMBA Accreditation renewed and Executive Education operations started in China
2003 Mikkeli University Center started
2004 Executive MBA was granted AMBA accreditation
2005 Degree structure renewed to be based on programs and Bologna principles and Departments reorganized
2006 New HSE strategy approved
