JESSENIUS FACULTY OF MEDICINE

Jessenius Faculty of Medicine is one of three faculties of medicine in the Slovak Republic. It was founded in 1969 as an independent Faculty and integral component of Comenius University. The Faculty provides bachelor, master, doctor, and postgraduate PhD. study and life-long education. It gives applicants an opportunity to study General Medicine in Slovak or English language and Nursing in Slovak language. Graduates of full-time university study in the study branch of General Medicine are awarded the academic degree „Doctor of Medicine", graduates of university study in the study branch of Nursing are awarded the academic degree „Bachelor" or „Master". During the period of its existence there were more than 4,000 graduates of General Medicine study not only from Slovakia but also from about 30 countries of the world. The faculty provides postgraduate PhD. study in the accredited fields of study and graduates are awarded „PhD." degree. Since the academic year 2000/2001 the Faculty has been providing credit system of university study in accordance with European Union criteria. The credit system of study gives students possibility to enroll at several schools not only in Slovakia but also abroad and makes their study flexible. Jessenius Faculty of Medicine belongs to prominent faculties not only within Comenius University but also within other prominent intitutions of graduate medical education all over the world. It has not only excellent theoretical and pre-clinical workplaces but also clinical teaching bases in Martin Faculty Hospital. The Faculty achieves very good results in the field of scientific research and international activities.
