  • Programme Description

    Programme name: Coastal Zone Management

    Specialization: Coastal Zone Management

    Certificate of Coastal Zone Management

    Who owns the coast?

Seas, oceans and coasts are shared by so many players that the issues involving them can not be limited to one nation or continent. Nationally and internationally, coastal areas are being claimed by an enormous range of people and organisations, all demanding a say in what happens there: conservationists, fishermen, oil companies, tourists - and many, many others. As a result, coastal developments are becoming ever more complex.

With so much at stake, people who work as coastal zone managers have to be both principled and focused. They must know how to function in a multicultural setting, and be experts in international rules, regulations and cooperation agreements. They must also be well versed in a host of other subjects - not just ecology and law, but also communication and research methodology.

That is why this programme is designed for all-rounders: people who will develop a broad insight into tourism, ecology, law, environment, civil engineering, fishery economics, process management and maritime transport. Versatile people, with an overview of coastal management issues. People whose excellent communication skills will help them overcome conflicts between different stakeholders.
