    The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine safeguards the health and wellbeing of animals and people. It is the only institution of higher education in Finland to educate veterinary surgeons. The Faculty’s operations are located at the Viikki Campus and Saari in Mäntsälä

    The Faculty has four departments:

    -Food Hygiene and Environmental Health
    -Equine and Small Animal Medicine
    -Production Animal Medicine
    -Veterinary Biosciences

    An essential part of the activities of the Faculty is the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The Hospital comprises the Small Animal Hospital and Equine Hospital both operating in new premises in Viikki and the Production Animal Hospital locates in Saari, Mäntsälä.

    In addition, the Faculty’s units include the Research Centre for Animal Welfare.

    The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine the only institution of higher education in Finland to educate veterinary surgeons. The Faculty is responsible for the basic education of veterinary surgeons in Finland and research as well as for scientific postgraduate studies and vocational further and extension studies.

    The aim of the Faculty is to maintain and develop internationally high-quality education and research of veterinary medicine while taking into account changes in the field and the society.

    The basic degree is the Degree of Licentiate of Veterinary Medicine. The extent of the Licentiate degree is 360 ECTS credits and its completion takes approximately six years. Postgraduate degrees are the Specialist Degree in Veterinary Medicine and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

    - the Faculty has approximately 400 first degree students, 90 students engaged in scientific postgraduate studies and 120 students studying for the Specialist Degree
    - there is approximately 120 staff
    - annually approximately 50 Licentiates in Veterinary Medicine receive their degrees
