    Programme Description

This Master´s programme is internationally accredited by the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO).

You´re fascinated by medical science, your ambition is to improve human health, but you don´t want to be a clinician? Then Biomedical Sciences may be just the programme for you. This Master´s programme provides you with a solid basis in methodology, statistics and biostatistics, laboratory research and communication skills. As a researcher in an academic, corporate or public healthcare organisation you will be able to work on a wide range of issues.

You choose one of the six specializations offered by the University as your main subject (major). These specializations are directly linked to top research at the Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences (NCMLS) and the Nijmegen Centre for Evidence-based Practice (NCEBP). Both institutes have a strong international reputation and you will have the opportunity to participate in their research.

Nijmegen scientists lead the field in Toxicology and Pathobiology - two of the specializations offered in the Master´s programme. The specialization Clinical Human Movement Sciences stands out because of its strong clinical orientation and its emphasis on revalidation science. For students from abroad, Occupational and Environmental Health is a particularly interesting specialization because Dutch legislation is seen internationally as leading in the field. Within this specialization there is a new additional programme - Human and Environmental Risk Assessment (HERA).

A recent evaluation committee judged that this programme - when compared to similar programmes elsewhere in the Netherlands - was clearly the best. In particular, they commended our unique system of subject area tutors. As a Master´s student you will be advised and supported in your choice of internships and theoretical education - and in your career - by a professional who will act as your personal coach. In addition, you will have plenty of opportunity to follow your own interests and you will be able to work in small groups on challenging topics.

Employers are impressed by the quality of our interns and graduates. In particular, they praise their analytical skills and independent approach. Our Master´s programme gives you the qualifications you need for a career in academia, research institutes, government agencies, teaching hospitals, public health organizations or in the pharmaceutical and medical industry. About 40% of our graduates first complete a PhD and there are many vacancies for PhD projects every year in Nijmegen.
