    Programme Description

This dynamic programme brings together two very distinct media formats - print and internet. It covers both history as well as the latest digital developments.

In this one-year programme, you will have the opportunity to study today's digital revolution from a historical perspective, providing you with unique view of the printing revolution that took Europe by storm in the fifteenth century. The programme is the only one of its kind in the Netherlands and covers the entire history and present practice of textual transmission, from manuscript to the internet, within its societal and technological context. Specialisations include history of the book, digital access to cultural heritage and publishing studies. You will have access to a number of interesting facilities, including the seventeenth-century Bibliotheca Thysiana, the `Press Room' of the Academic Press Leiden, and the library of the Koninklijke Vereniging van het Boekenvak (Royal Dutch Book Trade Association) in Amsterdam. You will also benefit from the expertise of specialists within such institutions as the Leiden University Library and the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (the national library of the Netherlands) in The Hague.
