    Programme Description

    The doctoral Twin Curriculum (dual track) programme, offered mainly in distance education mode, plus residencies, focuses on the educational and consultative dimensions in leadership development and organisational change. The Twin Curriculum leads to a postgraduate diploma in advanced leadership studies (PALS), as well as to a Ph.D. degree. The twinning concept is grounded in the reality that prior to the successful completion of doctoral research and PhD thesis in the discipline/field of leadership, a very comprehensive knowledge in the course subjects of leadership, and related areas, needs to be fully mastered.

    The postgraduate curriculum can also be attended on a 'single track' basis, leading to the postgraduate diploma only. In such case the PhD can be undertaken at a later stage in one's career. In accordance with the graduate school's interdisciplinary approach, the doctoral specialisations focus on specific leadership and change dimensions found in many professions (see example-list of disciplines). In other words, leadership is the vortex.

    The field of leadership studies has evolved substantially in the past decades; the formal knowledge plus demonstrated practice requirements have grown accordingly. In line with the programme's aims and learning approach it is expected that the participants pursue an active professional life, in which adequate space and sufficient time is made available for study. The e-coached distance learning version of the programme is combined with (at least) one residential requirement (summer institute, special residencies, or regional residencies).

    The Postgrad.Dipl. + PhD programme starts off with the postgraduate curriculum. All of the course materials and examinations are in English, which also the common language for the e-coaching and residence modules. The e-coaching part can also be offered in French, German, or Dutch. As a whole, the flow of both the twin and single track curricula contains "conventional" learning (cognitive) methods, as well as non-linear and non-sequential processes of thought, learning, and development.

    The programme is organised by the international higher institute for leadership INSIL, Institut Supérieur International de Leadership of France. The distance learning course delivery is undertaken by its international affiliate, the Thierry Graduate School of Leadership of Belgium.
