Addressing Global Challenges: an International Law Perspective
calendar_month 29 Iul 2015, 00:00
Whether it is the inaction of the Security Council to respond to the mass atrocities in Syria, the revealed abuses after the collapse of the Bangladesh factory, or the international efforts to crush Islamic State (IS), many contemporary problems displayed in the media are of an international and sometimes even global nature. International law, a field of law that is continuously developing and changing, seeks to address these issues, and where possible, solve them. The challenge for the law is to keep up with the rapid developments and movements that stimulate globalization, and the legal reality is time and again staying behind on practice. Nonetheless, the current legal framework has been developed to such an extent that it can in fact provide answers to many global challenges. These answers, however, are not always easily found.During this course, a number of contemporary global challenges will be discussed in the light of the applicable legal framework. By doing so, participants will become aware of the possibilities and gaps in the current field of public international law.
