Architecture Summer School

In July 2015 you and your students can join us in Nottingham for one, two, three or four weeks of architecture.And why Nottingham? In addition to our excellent architecture department, the city is a great place for a summer experience. We%E2%80%99re right in the heart of England, with London, the coast and all the UK%E2%80%99s major attractions within easy reach. We provide students from home and abroad with a real experience of living and learning in the UK, in a lively region made famous by its castles, caves and countryside. The summer programme includes:Architectural History Above and Below Ground: This course gives you the opportunity to explore the rich and varied history of architecture in England. You will immerse yourself in the buildings, designs, construction methods and materials whilst learning about the people who lived and worked in Nottingham %E2%80" the %E2%80%98City of Caves%E2%80%99.Architecture and Pattern: This course will explore the concept of city and structure through the analysis of patterns. It will introduce you to the concept of pattern recognition and how it can be used to explore the urban environment, using the computer to generate images that identify spatial activity, infrastructure and the built form.Beautiful Little Buildings: Architectural Model Making: There is something very special about little buildings - something both fascinating and beautiful. And on this practical course you will learn new model making skills to take forward in the future. The work you will create will be ideal for adding to your portfolio as well as improving your knowledge of architecture.Architecture and the Edit: This course will introduce you to the ideas of architecture in film as a narrative device and scene setter, while also developing ideas and methods towards creating original material, inspired by the numerous environments within the city of Nottingham.

Tutors are drawn from the full-time programmes in architecture.

Target group
Attendees are welcome from the UK, Europe and around the world. You must have completed the first year of an undergraduate course in architecture or a related subject to benefit from this course.

Course aim
The aim of the programme is for current architecture students who are looking for an international experience to immerse themselves in architectural thinking today whilst exploring our rich social history.

Credits info
Upon successful completion you will receive a certificate to say you have attended and achieved a level of attainment expected by our academic staff. If you wish to receive credit for your time in the UK you will need to arrange this with your faculty at home before you attend. NTU can supply module specifications to assist in calculating a credit equivalency. As a guide the summer programme is equivalent to 2.5 ECTS per week.
