Bolgar International Archeological Field School

Bolgar International Archeological Field School is an academic program offered by Kazan Federal University (Russia) in collaboration with Khalikov Institute of Archeology(Russia). The School is held annualy and hosted by the International Archeological Research Centre located in Bolgar, Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. Bolgar lies on the shores of the Volga River, south of the capital of Tatarstan, Kazan. This area has been the focus of archeological investigations for almost 150 years. It contains evidence of the medieval city of Bolgar, which was the main political and economic centre of the Volga Boulgaria and one of the essential cities of the Golden Horde. Due to one of a kind brick and stone buildings remains, representing the Golden Horde architecture, and its unique cultural value, Bolgar was inscripted to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2014.In 2015, we offer following courses and workshops: %E2%80%A2 Archeological Materials Science; %E2%80%A2 Non-destructive Methods of Archeological Field Research;%E2%80%A2 Paleoanthropology; %E2%80%A2 Archeo-biological Methods in Archeology;%E2%80%A2 History of Ceramics;%E2%80%A2 History of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy and Metalworking;%E2%80%A2 History of Ferrous Metallurgy and Metalworking;%E2%80%A2 Experimental Trace Analysis on Stone Tools.Every course will bring together 5-10 students who work in groups to carry out research projects in response to a theme. Beside the theme-based workshops and lab works, students will benefit from lectures focusing on the key issues and methods of Archeology. The School will be followed by Final Conference.Participants will have an opportunity to attend several field trips during the School.The languages of the School are both English and Russian. The knowledge of Russian is welcomed but not necessary.Practical details:- Participation is free of charge - Accommodation and food are provided. Target group
Undergraduate and graduate students,as well as post-doctoral trainees and young researchers under the age of 35 are encouraged to apply for the School. Young scientists of any nationality and from all fields of Archeology, Arts, Anthropology and other related fields are eligible.
Course aim
The project's mission is to consolidate Russian and foreign scientific and educational resources as well as to study and apply the latest scientific developments in investigation and preservation of the Eurasian cultural heritage.
