CH1: Ion Mobility Mass Spectrometry

Ion mobility mass spectrometry (IM-MS) is a modern analytical technique, which separates ions on the basis of their size/charge ratios. It has shortly evolved as a powerful tool for investigating molecular structure and separating complex samples. It is today applied widely on chemical, biochemical and biological analysis and has great impact from separation isomers to metabolomics and structural biology. This course introduces the operational principles, key methods and instrumental design related on ion mobility mass spectrometry (IM-MS). In addition, IMS as a stand alone technique, theoretical methods for determination of collision cross sections and IM-MS application for analysis of small molecules, biomolecules and supramolecules are discussed.

Target group
Basic knowledge of mass spectrometry. M.Sc. or final term student in chemistry, biochemistry or biology. The Summer School annually offers courses for advanced master's students, graduate students, and post-docs in the various fields of science and information technology.
Course aim
The most important aims of the Summer School are to develop post-graduates scientific readiness and to offer students the possibility to study in a modern, scientific environment and to create connections to the international science community.

EUR 0: Participating the Summer School is free of charge, but student have to cover the costs of own travel, accommodation and meals at Jyvskyl.
