Communicating cooperation and international solidarity: social media and campaigning

For the actors involved in the field of international cooperation and solidarity, as well as for the operators of non-profit sector, a good external communication is essential in order to plan new projects, increase their financial and human resources, disseminate the achieved results, promote advocacy actions and political lobby. In the web 2.0 era, development actors have to %E2%80%98interact%E2%80%99 with, %E2%80%98involve%E2%80%99 and %E2%80%98mobilize%E2%80%99 volunteers, supporters, donors and policy makers. Therefore they must have the appropriate expertise to put in place an effective communication strategy.In this framework, the Summer School %E2%80%98Communicating cooperation and international solidarity: social media and campaigning%E2%80%99 will focus on:%E2%80%A2%09useful use of social media;%E2%80%A2%09planning, implementation and evaluation of an awareness campaign;%E2%80%A2%09promotion of advocacy and political lobby actions;%E2%80%A2%09basic fundraising techniques;%E2%80%A2%09online activism.The Summer School is organized by the Scuola Superiore Sant%E2%80%99Anna in collaboration with Volontari per lo Sviluppo, NGOs 2.0, Oxfam Italy, Doctors Without Borders Italy, Change.org Italy and AMREF Health Africa.The Course is taught in Italian.

Target group
Operators, volunteers and students involved in the fields of development cooperation and/or media and/or non-profit sector. The Course is open to a maximum of 25 participants.

Course aim
The course focuses on the value and role of communication in the field of cooperation, major media and their use, communication methodologies useful for achieving specific targets, use of social media, and it provides operational guidance on fundraising tools and construction elements of an awareness campaign.

Fee info
EUR 800: The cost includes tuition fee, reference material, lunch and dinner on class days. Participants are required to make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation.
