Contemporary Concepts in Dental Education and Personalized Health Care

You will learn to upgrade, modernise and optimise dental education practises and improve the quality of dental education. The training will contribute to an attitude to learning that supports the implementation of these skills and knowledge. You will be better equipped to train a new generation of dentists and dental teachers who are interested in implementing this knowledge in their teaching practices and clinical interventions.Course topics are:Basic principles of Problem Based Learning and examples of its implementation. This module includes features of PBL, structure and format, development of so-called itl-structured problems. It also focuses on assessment in PBL and on the impact of PBL on student learning and motivation. You will practise with the construction of self-study assignments.EBD Theory: Explanation of the process of Evidence Based Dentistry according to the following steps:(1) evaluation of patient or community needs, (2) identification of the gap in understanding andformulation of a questionable answer using PICO strategy (Problem, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome), (3) search for the best evidence, (4) critical evaluation of the collected evidence, (5)integration of the evaluated evidence with own experience, and (6) evaluation of the EBD approach and outcomes of decisions made.Internet Literature Search and Critical Appraisal: In order to use evidence in the clinical practise, you should be capable of effectively finding evidence on the internet. Techniques for effective, quick and strategic searching for evidence using the internet, as well as appraisal of this evidence, will be taught.Problem Based Treatment Planning is a way to organise a patient's treatment in a predictive andsystematical order. A treatment plan should contain all relevant information about the occlusion and complaints, causes and possible solutions, and the final result. It is a well-structured report for both dentist and patient.Developments in dental online-learning. The developments and new learning possibilities offered by online learning are discussed, as well as aspects related to the integration of online courses in the dental curriculum.The course will include a guided tour in the dental building and a dental private practise.
