Contemporary International Migration: Theory and Practice

The course is designed to provide participants with an understanding of current developments in the field of international migration, which will be examined from a range of disciplinary perspectives including law, sociology and political science. Classes will be given by professors and professionals in the field of migration from different European universities and organizations and will be complemented by practical exercises, debates and research work. All classes will be in English. At the end of course participants will be asked to write a report and will receive a certificate of participation.The course content is divided into four themes:1. Understanding migratory paths and strategies and the expectations of migrants on the basis of national origin, gender and the generational perspective.2. Study of the legal, economic, political and social dynamics that determine the inclusion/exclusion of immigrant populations in the social structure of the society of destination.3. Understanding the theories behind international movements of people, focusing particularly on the case of workers.4.
