The course introduces Creative Psychotherapy to those seeking a deeper understanding of the dynamics of creativity, psyche and human behaviour. During this course students will learn about CP%E2%80%99s basic principles, the theoretical background, and experience various ways of practice. In the therapeutic approach of Creative Psychotherapy creativity plays a fundamental part. CP can be described as a process, where a relationship is formed between the psychotherapist, the client and the creative work providing a safe framework for the inner self to unfold, heal and flourish.Psychotherapy stemming from psychology is a discipline formed over millennia. The inner aspects of the human being have been defined in antiquity as the psyche, the spirit (pneuma) and the mind (nous). A need for emotional existed in the form of support from family and friends and guidance through spiritual leaders. In the 9th century Rhazes applied a psychological approach in the Middle East. In Europe, mental health disorders were viewed as effects of demonic intervention and punishment was prescribed. Only after the Enlightenment medicine is ready for the 'talking cure', practised by Josef Breuer in the late 1800s. Then developed by his prot%C3%A9g%C3%A9 Sigmund Freud to become psychoanalysis as we know it today. Currently psychotherapy is a mainstream discipline applied as a cure to emotional problems that range from minor crises to chronic and life threatening.Arts psychotherapies started by artists working with people suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and severe mental health problems in institutions during the mid 1900s. Over years of practice creativity in psychotherapy is directed in enabling subconscious mechanisms to surface raising awareness and potentially enhancing our quality of life. No prior coursework or experience is required for enrolment. Rather than receiving instructions directed towards specific competences, participants will engage in guided exploration and experience. The course method focuses on the individual and his or her unique way of producing creative work and engaging with it. Course participants will learn to use creative work as a tool for communication and exploration of the subconscious, as well as develop a better understanding of the self and the social environment. Course methodology respects the individual%E2%80%99s ability and willingness to explore at one%E2%80%99s own pace in a confidential setting where it is safe to express both ideas and emotions.

Target group
The course is open to all interested in the subject of Creative Psychotherapy, its principles and practical methods. There is no requirement of any previous experience in art or psychotherapy. Week 1 of the course is open to anyone interested in exploring creativity in the context of the subconscious Self. Week 2 will focus more in-depth in key theoretical concepts and clinical applications of Creative Psychotherapies. Attendance of Week 1 is required for attending week 2.

Credits info
No credits will be awarded. The students will get the summer school certificate of participation.

Fee info
EUR 450: 2 weeks. Without cultural programme and accommodation. EUR 250: 1 week. Accommodation and meals are not included in the price.
