Europe is in crisis. The eurozone has been rocked by instability. Recession and unemployment seem to have become endemic in many parts of the EU. Eurosceptic parties have made spectacular electoral advances across the region. Is the whole European project in danger of collapse? And if it can be saved, then how?

Target group
Primarily students of Social Sciences (including Law and Economics) and Humanities, although interested participants from other backgrounds are also welcome. A basic familiarity with historical, institutional and policy aspects of European integration is required (see advance reading list below).

Course aim
You gain a thorough insight into the background and main aspects of the current crisis (economic, political, institutional, ideational) and the nature of the reform proposals on the table.You are able to make sense of the often confusing and one-sided news coverage, and to formulate your own viewpoints.You learn how to conduct expert interviews.You are trained in performing debates

Credits info
3 ECTS ECTS is the standard European credit system, each ECTS credit is equivalent to 28 study hours. All courses are worth 3 ECTS. Because some education systems (such as the American universities) base their credits on contact hours, we have included the contact hours in the course description on our website.

Fee info
EUR 1100: Includes orientation and course material. Does not include housing.

Scholarships
The Amsterdam Summer School offers twenty scholarships of 500 for highly motivated students. The deadline to apply for a scholarship is 1 April. Application for the scholarship is part of the general online application procedure.
