Global Trends affecting Peace
calendar_month 29 Iul 2015, 00:00
Calling all visionariesMany Global Trends are currently affecting Peace, this can be in a positive but also in a negative way. Demographical growth, migration, climate change, and a revolution in transport and communications provide a new and challenging backdrop against which conflicts take place. There has also been a massive and unexpected development of international organisations, NGOs, and multi-national enterprises. Peacekeeping, human rights and counterinsurgency have developed into major instruments to counter wars and their consequences. General globalisation trends like the shift of economic power between continents raise questions about the role of global governance, the role of youth and the relations between society and security in restoring or keeping Peace.During this module you will be given a specific real-life challenge that they will have to tackle in an multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary team. Every morning, from Monday to Thursday there will be inspiring lectures from top speakers and you will work in groups on your challenges or have in depth discussions on the topics discussed during the lectures. The last Friday there will be a closing event in which you will present your work to each other and related stakeholders. On both Friday afternoons students will visit a cultural institution in The Hague, during this module The Humanity House ( what is it like to be a refugee) and the Maurits House (showing World Class Art of Dutch Masters). The general modules aim at broadening your view and allow you to work in in a multi-disciplinary setting. The general module content will be connected to the elective module of choice, in the late morning and afternoon. In the afternoons you will chose an elective: Design for the futureSecurity and SocietyChanging Entrepreneurship in SocietyGovernance Now and TomorrowDesigning a digital Nation
