Oxford Summer College is a two week university preparation course held in the heart of Oxford. The Oxford Summer College%E2%80%99s History course gives students an insight into the different ideas, institutions and cultural practices that have shaped the world as we know it. Students study a broad range of international history, from the fall of empires to the most famous revolutions in history. Students will also consider the historiographical debates in history, particularly those surrounding the wars of the 20th Century. Topics include:o%09French Revolutiono%09Kingdoms, Republics and Empireso%09Unification of Italy and Germanyo%09British Empireo%09Victorian Britain and the Industrial revolutiono%09United States expansionismo%09The decline of imperial Russia and the Russian revolutiono%09Alliances before the Great WarInternational RelationsIn International Relations, students will look to the 20th Century to gain an understanding of the burning issues of our times. Beginning with the build up to the Great War in 1900, students will consider the alliances that led the world into battle and evaluate the impact of the modernisation of warfare. As students move through the 1900s to the modern day, they look at the impact new European states had on neighbouring countries, the descent into WWII and the emergence of international superpowers. The syllabus progresses on to explore the conflict and cooperation between modern nations.
