Human Anatomy and Physiology
calendar_month 29 Iul 2015, 00:00
Understanding of the human body is crucial for most biomedical-related professions. This course will allow students to gain a fundamental understanding of form, i.e. anatomy, and function, i.e. physiology, of the human body. Students will learn through descriptions of the body systems using a combination of lectures, e-learning software, practicals and visits to museums to study human specimens. King%E2%80%99s College London has a long-standing reputation for the study of anatomy and physiology with world-renowned facilities, such as its museum of pathology, the Gordon Museum, at Guy%E2%80%99s hospital. Students will benefit from these facilities and other facilities in London, such as the Hunterian Museum, to gain a sound understanding of the principals of human anatomy and physiology. The course will cover the human body by learning both anatomy and physiology by means of body systems. The systems that will be covered are the skeletal, muscular, respiratory, cardiovascular, endocrine, nervous and urinary systems. Each system will be taught using a combination of lectures and e-learning tutorials that take place at the Strand Campus. Learning of the skeletal, muscular and cardiovascular systems will be facilitated by 2 sessions in the dissection room at the Guy's hospital campus to observe human specimens. Furthermore, the students will get an opportunity to augment their learning by exploring London's museums, including the Science Museum, the Hunterian Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Gordon Museum.

Course leader
Dr. Kawal RhodeDr. Kawal Rhode has a PhD in medical physics from University College London and is a biomedical engineer and senior lecturer at King's College London in the Division of Imaging Sciences and Biomedical Engineering, which is based at St.

Target group
Anatomy and physiology knowledge is useful for entry into many undergraduate and postgraduate courses, such as medicine, dentistry, nursing, biomedical sciences, forensics, osteopathy etc. KCL has a long and well known tradition in these subjects and the course will benefit all students considering biomedical-related careers. The course will also benefit people employed in biomedical professions that want to expand their knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.

Course aim
On completion of the course the students should be able:- To demonstrate basic anatomical knowledge of the human being with particular detail in the musculoskeletal, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems;- To demonstrate understanding of systems physiology with particular detail in muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems;- To experience the learning of anatomy and physiology through observation of anatomical specimens.
