Inter-university Summer School on European Policy-making

The first week in BRUSSELS emphasises the various decision-making actors and also looks at the implementation process at national level. Study visits are complemented by lectures from senior academics and by high-level officials from the Brussels based European institutions. The lectures include the following topics: - The EU treaties and their evolution- The functioning of the European institutions including the European Parliament, the Commission, the Council and the European Court of Justice- The European decision-making process- Structural diplomacy- Governance mechanisms and soft instruments of policy making- The EU and its lobby groupsThe second week takes place in VIENNA, where a team of experts offer in-depth knowledge of European policy-making in various fields such as:- Constitutional and legal issues- European Foreign and Security Policy- Monetary Policy

Target group
The programme is particularly geared towards:students of european studies, politics, history, law, economics students of other social sciences graduates and professionals high-level students with at least three years of study PhD students EU practitioners who wish to broaden their knowledge of the EU Packed with lectures, study visits and simulation games, this programme attracts students and young professionals who wish to broaden their knowledge of the European institutions, European law and the European decision-making process in general.Aside from being a valuable asset in professional life in general, the SummerSchool has proven to be a great help in preparing for the EU competitions toselect future officials.

Course aim
Two weeks of intensive study on the European decision-making process, geared towards students that have a background in (international) politics and/or (European) law. As of 2012, the Summer School corresponds to 5 ECTS-credits.

Credits info
5 ECTS As of 2012, the Summer School on European Policy-Making has received official accreditation from the VUB. Thus, the Summer School corresponds to 5 credits (equivalent to 5 ECTS). When you register for the Summer School, you also benefit from free access to the online EU-modules until the end of the Summer School. If you decide to sit the examination for these EU-modules you can receive a further 20 credits, making a total of 25 ECTS for the Summer School and EU-modules.
