International Business Law and the Global Business Environment

Operating a business on a global scale can be daunting. International managers and officers must contemplate a countless number of factors when making strategic business decisions. Concepts such as nationalization, intellectual property, war crimes, bribery, contracts, trade embargos, repatriation, tariffs, favored nations, sanctions, mediation, environmental disasters, the United Nations, and the World Trade Organization amongst others will affect even the smallest international organization. The daily headlines are full of stories depicting the latest international dispute or struggle. However, what does it all mean? How should business leaders respond? Who regulates these disputes? Who is in charge? What is the governing law and how is it applied? How will this affect business and the economy? These are just a few of the questions business leaders need to identify, comprehend, and manage in order to be successful in today%E2%80%99s global business environment.This course is designed for all students, professionals, and representatives of international institutions. Given the global nature of today%E2%80%99s business environment, the topics covered in this course may be considered crucial for contemporary business leaders. The course objective is to provide participants with a firm understanding of this complex global business environment. Teachings will cover business strategy, international polices, leadership, management concerns, international business regulation, corporate responsibility (including business ethics), legal issues and institutional issues that arise in typical international business transactions.The class emphasizes the operation and regulation of businesses in a global economy. In addition to the global marketplace we will focus on international dispute resolution, leadership, and the various relationships which exist within society, government, and business. A sample of covered topics includes: trade regulations, organizational policies, ethical treatment of employees, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, regulation of international sales, economic regulations, social regulations, the operation of the WTO, and environmental concerns.
