Internet, Intellectual Property and ICT: Understanding the Law of the Information Society
calendar_month 29 Iul 2015, 00:00
This course looks at what has been achieved so far, and what future norms are needed. It begins with a general introduction to information law and internet governance, mapping the various legal issues arising in the online environment as well as regulatory questions in relation to fundamental rights and freedoms in the information society. You then move on to three more specific modules: E-commerce Law, covering contracting, keyword advertising, consumer protection and the liability of online intermediaries; Privacy and Security, including behavioural advertising, cookies and cyberattacks; and Intellectual Property, looking at copyright, trademark and domain name regulation, database protection, freedom of transformative use and hyperlinking. In all three you discuss legal concepts against the background of international norms and, where possible, a comparative analysis of US and EU case law. You also contribute to a group presentation on a topic of your choice.
