Introduction The course aims to rectify any deficiencies in statistics and data processing that are offered as part of the 3-year bachelor%E2%80%99s programme in Health Sciences at the Maastricht University Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences. The topics include descriptive statistics, confidence intervals, tests of significance, regression, causality and correlation, confounding, and evaluation of the usability of a measurement instrument (e.g. a questionnaire). All of these will be discussed in a non-technical way and integrated with the introduction of the statistical software SPSS. The 2-week course is taught in English. Learning methods- Lectures; - Study teams; - Combined SPSS training/ workshops. Each subject will be introduced in a lecture, after which each study team will receive a take-home assignment with a structured plan. An extensive feedback will be given in the workshop of the following day.

Objectives - how to use a selected statistical method to evaluate a study objective; - how to correctly interpret results of a statistical analysis and; - how to critically read a scientific paper from a statistical point of view.

3 ECTS The exam is organised on the last day of the course which is 17 July 2015. Although the course is only offered in English, you can take the exam in either English or Dutch. The exam consists of multiple choice questions.
