Plants used for digestive problems.7. Plants used in cardiovascular and circulatory diseases.8. Plants used in genitourinary and gynaecological conditions.9. Plants with immunomodulatory effects in cancer.10. State of the art and future of herbal medicine (panel discussion). The course includes a one-day field trip to the Montseny massif, a protected natural park and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Despite being located just 50 kilometres from Barcelona, the park is rich in flora (boasting some 1,500 vascular plant species) and is reasonably well preserved. Across a relatively shallow transect, from sea level to 1700 m, participants will be able to observe one of the most diverse landscapes in Europe, with communities representing Mediterranean, Euro-Siberian and Boreo-Alpine vegetation. The massif is very rich in plants with specific uses, particularly for medicinal purposes (more than 500 are known and used by people in the surrounding region).
