Politics, Economies, and Societies of a Changing Middle East

During the 2015 Munich-Vienna Middle East Summer School, students will be provided with a broad understanding of the key political, economic, and societal developments in the contemporary Middle East. In the seminars, students will be taught by academics and practitioners with long-standing experience in the Middle East and given the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with students from the region in focus.In addition to the academic part, the Summer School also includes visits to institutions such as the Representation of the European Commission, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).The Summer School also offers a rich cultural program with sightseeing, visits to museums, traditional Munich beer gardens, and Viennese coffeehouses, a trip to Salzburg, and much more.

Target group
The program targets both advanced students (at least one year of college/university education) and young professionals. Applicants should have a general interest in foreign policy, economics, and societal developments and be willing to participate in an interdisciplinary and intercultural learning process. In-depth knowledge of Middle Eastern affairs is not required.In-class participation, especially in the discussions with experts as well as in the simulation that is part of the program, is essential for the course success and plays an important role in grading.Lectures, presentations and examinations will be held in English. Knowledge of German is not required.

Credits info
6 ECTS Most international colleges and universities accept credits from the MISU LMU. However, each institution has its own policy regarding credit acceptance from other institutions. We strongly recommend that students consult their academic advisor and/or professor to receive credit transfer approval before applying to the MISU Summer Academy. Students who would like to transfer credits to their home universities should print out all documents contact the professor or study abroad advisor and ask for credit and grade approval.
