Target group
Caring for a patient suffering from Alzheimer's disease is not an easy task. As such, this course offers extensive advice to caregivers and patients on how to manage and overcome the adverse conditions associated with the disease and improve their quality of life.
Course aim
Specific lectures will be given to provide participants with valuable insight that can be harnessed to provide better care for relatives suffering from the disease and to safeguard the wellbeing of the patient and caregiver. At the end of the course there will be a series of specific talks on lifestyle strategies to lessen symptoms and improve quality of life, focusing particularly on exercise and diet.The course emphasizes the fact that an ageing population will see an exponential increase in Alzheimer's cases over the coming years, hence considerable medical, social and welfare resources will be needed to meet the challenge. Although there is currently no cure for Alzheimer's, there are drugs to treat symptoms and new procedures to detect early biomarkers that enable treatment with specific drugs than prevent or slow disease progression.
