The Summer Institute on Sexuality, Culture and Society at the Graduate School of Social Sciences , University of Amsterdam, is an intensive four-week summer course, which focuses on the study of sexuality across cultures and is taught by an international faculty team.Each year, the SI is comprised of a, multidisciplinary international faculty and student body from a range of social and cultural backgrounds, offering a rewarding and challenging learning experience. Students engage with faculty and guest lecturers via a specialized program of course modules (twice daily), weekly get-togethers, and informal conversations during daily group lunches. Students benefit from an exceptional networking opportunity through the sharing of experiences, works in progress, research plans and diverse perspectives.As the host city for the SI, Amsterdam is an ideal location. Target group
Minimum: completed Bachelor's degree with strong background in related topics (sexuality, anthropology, sociology). Most candidates are enrolled in a graduate or postgraduate programme. Professionals are also welcome.
Course aim
The Summer Institute on Sexuality, Culture and Society will provide students with a unique opportunity to explore the social and cultural dimensions of human sexuality, and to gain knowledge of cutting-edge research on sexuality as conceptualized and practised globally, pertaining to both theory and methodology.

9.9 ECTS As a Summer Institute student you will either receive: * a certificate (non-credit) * or both a certificate and a transcript (credit)with an official seal from the Universiteit van Amsterdam. You must complete all requirements for successful completion of the course. For students wishing to obtain credit for the course, writing a paper is one of the requirements. Students will be judged on class attendance, literature comprehension, and class participation, and for credit students a final written paper (minimum 15- maximum 20 pages).The final paper can be on any subject that relates to the study of sexuality and culture, but should reflect what you have learned in these four weeks of the Summer Institute. Previously written papers may not be submitted. It is obligatory to speak with the supervisor about your paper topic before you begin. You should present an abstract of your paper, stating topic, purpose, and other relevant details (200 to 400 words) in the first week of the Summer Institute. Do not attempt to write a paper without getting approval and feedback first.When you have completed your paper, please email it to the Summer Institute. Most students do not finish their papers while the SI is in session, but they complete it in the month following the course. If you meet all requirements, you can expect to get full credit for the course. Please submit your paper no later than August 31, 2010.

EUR 2350: for non-credit students, plus a 25 application fee (not applicable for students applying for the Nuffic Fellowship; early bird application: no application fee if we receive your application before February 1, 2015. EUR 2700: for students wishing to receive credit, plus a 25 application fee (no application fee if we receive your application before February 1, 2015)
Scholarships
Scholarships are available to students from certain universities.Students can obtain information about Dutch scholarships from NUFFIC. The Nuffic scholarship will cover the cost of non-credit tuition, travel and living expenses.
