Summer course by Estonian Business School.The objective of this course is to offer an overview of conceptual foundations and main methods of valuation applied in the social cost-benefit analysis and thereby to develop analytical skills, which are based on socially-oriented economic thinking.The course offers an overview of the conceptual foundations of social cost-benefit analysis and familiarizes participants with the underlying principles and main methods of valuation of social costs and benefits, which can be used in valuation of market-goods as well as non-market-goods, such as public goods, life and time. The participants will learn the contingent valuation methods as well as the methods that are based on observed behaviour. Among other things, the course also familiarizes students with the relevant empirical literature. The two-week course consists of lectures and workshops.

Target group
This course is intended for those who are interested in the valuation of public as well as private sector projects, programs or policies from the social point of view. Participants should have basic knowledge in microeconomics prior to enrolment in this course.

Course aim
By the end of this course the participants will be able to identify and evaluate the social costs and benefits associated with the projects and programs of public or private sectors and to assess whether the projects and programs are desirable from society's point of view.
