Sociologie de la culture en France (in french)

What social interactions influence the process of art creation and what means do we owe to seize their impact on the invention and the fabrication of the works of art, as well as on their reception by different kinds of audience? These questions will come under the spotlight during this course. Aiming to familiarize the foreign students with the major achievements of the French school of the sociology of art and culture, the course invites to take possession of its research methods in order to examine the actual configuration of the field of cultural production nowadays in France.

Target group
The course is suitable for Master's and Doctoral level students of different fields of study (the major academic backgrounds include literature, philosophy, history, political studies, art criticism, sociology, cultural management and urban studies).

Course aim
- to become familiar with the main concepts and methods developed by the sociology of culture;- to better apprehend the impact of the macro- and micro-social structures on the artistic practices;- to get acquainted with the most influential institutions and the core players in the field of cultural production in contemporary France;- to develop the skills of the sociocultural analysis of the works or art;- to perfect a critical approach to reading and interpretation of cultural artifacts.
