New YorkMake a business idea a reality. Students initiate the course at Parsons by spending the first two days brainstorming in small and large groups around business ideas. Examples of successful (and failed) startups will be presented along with a variety of small business structures and approaches%E2%80"three site visits will take place in %E2%80%9CSilicon Alley%E2%80%9D. The third day will be spent presenting ideas to a panel of visiting entrepreneurs, and the jury will choose 4-5 winning ideas. Groups will be formed to develop the winning ideas through concept stages and into actual business models, with definition of products, markets, and organizational structure, and fiscal plan. The week will culminate with final presentations and critique.LondonOnce in London the groups will be completely changed. Focus will be on refining ideas, with continued introduction to key strategic tools and approaches that could help ideate and plan a new business venture. Emphasis will be placed on how to develop a strong value proposition (what the business proposes of value to the consumer) that is aligned with the products or services that are delivered. The London sessions will focus on design and branding perspectives, emphasizing both analytical and creative approaches to developing a business. The course will conclude with two intense days focused on creating a full-blown business plan.

Course leader
Dr Monika Hestad is an Associate Lecturer on the MA Innovation Management course at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design (CSM), and runs the consultancy Brand Valley Design. She has an MA and PhD in industrial design and branding from the Oslo

Target group
The course is suitable for entrepreneurs, designers and other creative individuals that are about to start a new venture. The course will mainly be a workshop, with a few short lectures in between where key activities are introduced. Course aim
