This summer school is organised as a part of the National Research Network "Analytic Combinatorics and Probabilistic Number Theory'''' supported by the Austrian Science Foundation.

Topics

The purpose of the summer school is to introduce and enlighten the powerful interplay between dynamical systems and number theory. The four courses focus on different recent research developments in that direction. The summer school is therefore designed for PhD-students and young Post-Docs with some background in ergodic theory and number theory.

Speakers

Lecture A: Vitaly Bergelson Ramsey Theory, Uniform Distribution, and Ergodic Theory

Lecture B: Manfred Einsiedler Dynamics on locally homogeneous spaces

Lecture C: Douglas Lind Dynamics, Algebra, and Number Theory

Lecture D: Thomas Ward Dynamical properties of commuting automorphisms

With approximately 230.000 inhabitants, Graz is the 2nd largest city of Austria, situated in the region of Styria, 180 km (110 miles) south-west of Vienna. It has four universities (the University, the University of Technology, the Medical University of Graz, and the University of Music and Dramatic Arts), a pleasant old center that is not yet overcrowded by tourists.

The airport of Graz can be reached via Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, Zurich, ... and some other "hubs". By train, it takes 2 hours and 40 minutes from Vienna.
