Terminal + (course)

A man lived for 20 years in Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris because he had lost his identity documents. Then Spielberg made his film Terminal, in which the protagonist lives in a hyperreal copy of JFK airport because his nationality is not recognised. In this course, we will spend three weeks in "Terminal +".We will ask ourselves how sculptural production is possible under these circumstances. The Terminal serves as a metaphor. The motif of lack of identity is central; it is seen not only as an external condition, but also as a resource for production within the imaginary Terminal. How can we build parts of emerging installations to form co-existences and %E2%80" possibly %E2%80" find means of escape? The connection with theoretical, scientific models, with fictional or filmic narratives and other artistic works is just as relevant as the question of how "immediate reality" can be integrated into artistic work."Sculptural production" is to be understood in the broadest sense, and includes the process of development: obtaining the materials, allotting their significance, their independent transformation, etc. Together we will seek practical and spontaneous working methods in which the actions and works will be understood as fragments, both in relation to one another and within the metaphorical and performative space.
