Muslims of the former Soviet Union speak, think and write about Islam in different languages. The goal of our course is to analyze the competition between the expanding Russian Islamic language and the national traditions of speaking about religious matters. We will see how shared discursive fields come into being in conversion of most hated enemies. Another point of interest is the political significance of language choice and the phenomenon of code-switching between the styles and languages.
