The Window to Europe: the Role of St. Petersburg in Russian History

The major theme of the course is the idea of St. Petersburg in Russian History. It covers the period from the foundation of St. Petersburg by Peter the Great until the collapse of communism at the end of the twentieth century. The course aims at discussing the historical development of the capital of the Russian Empire, the role of Petrograd in the revolution and the fate of the city under the communist dictatorship.
