Furnished City (August 3rd to 21st)-Career week (August 24th to 28th)-Optional German language course (July 20th to 31st) Usually, the city-space is inhabitated by a lot of items that are barely noticed. During this seminar we will examine these urban objects. By transforming what we see, using various artistic approaches and media, we will question our every day views and categorisations in regards of city furniture. Course Components:You will be able to gain experience in the field of developing a concept based on your own ideas and on team working. Thereby excursions, group discussions and single consultations will help you to develop your concept.

Target group
This course is designed for students, who are interested in artistic interventions in the city-space of Berlin. Therefore the participants are required to be experienced in artistic expressions and diverse artistic media. The ability to work in a team is preferable.Subject of Study:A lot of objects, which are inhabiting the city-space are barely noticed, as they do not have a direct use for us. "City furniture" is a generic term for these items in urban space, parks or squares and which comparable to classic furniture "furnish the public space". Besides, these objects offer a special function for the public space, i.e. recovery (in forms of benches), order (bicycle racks) or tidiness (rubbish bins). Dependent on our own cultural background and personal experiences we focus on different things. During this seminar we will examine exactly those urban objects. By transforming what we see, using various artistic approaches and media, we will question our everyday views and categorizations in regards of city furniture. By doing so, we will open up new ways on how to perceive our urban environment.

Course aim
After taking part in this course, you will have made artistic experiences by transforming your very own associations and ideas into a work in urban space.

Credits info
5 ECTS 5 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) for the Summer School or 6 ECTS if booked along with the optional German language course.

Fee info
EUR 1850: The fee includes: the Summer School academic program, the career week and some extracurricular activities. Optional German language course not included (560 Euros)
