UNISCA Summer Course

The UNISCA Summer Course is a Model United Nations: a simulation of the United Nations where the official rules of the organization and some of its official Committees are being simulated (for example, the Security Council and the Human Rights Council, etc.). Participants are assigned a different country and for the duration of the conference, and they represent the country%E2%80%99s official policies and defend them on different global issues, depending on the Committee they are part of.The UNISCA Summer Course is an international, interdisciplinary university course. UNISCA is not a regular university course. It is a ten day Summer Course consisting of two parts: six lectures divided over three days (June 29th, June 30th and July 1st). Following the lecture days will be a conferenceweek from July 3rd until July 7th. Students of all universities. UNISCA offers a Bachelor programme.

Course aim
Students will obtain knowledge of important issues concerning the United Nations.Students will improve their negotiation and debating skills and learn how to persuade and structure argumentation.Students will become familiar with knowledge of rules and procedures in a contemporary or coming UN conference. This entails knowledge of rules of conduct in an official UN forum, UN resolution writing, and knowledge of the policies of the countries and organizations within the UN.Students will have the opportunity to join an ICJ Moot Court to participate as a part (bachelor) or Judge (master). Law students only.Student will gain knowledge on the role of journalists during a conference, their work and their influence on the events that happen during a UN conference.

6 ECTS - 40 hours conference week- 18 hours lecture days- 40 hours writing- 70 hours preparation (including reading)Approximately three weeks before the actual Summer Course commences, students will have to write an extensive essay, called position paper, on their role (Delegate or Lawyer)During the last week of May/First week of June there will be an online test regarding the compulsory literatureParticipation (pass/fail) for the full programmParticipation in the conference is compulsory.Registration: UCP students register for this course through their programme manager.
