University of Cambridge Ancient and Classical Worlds Summer School

This programme explores ancient and classical worlds through their artistic, literary, philosophical, religious, economic and scientific characteristics. We focus particularly on the historical and cultural dimensions of ancient and classical worlds and their interactions with one another. The academic programme%E2%80%A2 Four special subject courses (two per week) %E2%80%A2 Plenary lecture course AE0: Parallel Lives %E2%80%A2 Evening lecturesSpecial subject coursesParticipants choose two courses per week, classes are held from Monday to Friday. COurses are led by recognised experts from the University of Cambridge and other British universities.Plenary lecturesCourse directors and leading specialists associated with the University give lectures on subjects such as origins of democracy, power in early China, and the limits of Roman rule.

Target group
The course is devised particularly for those who are interested in classics, religion, archaeology and the history of art, amongst other fields.
Course aim
The courses and plenary programme will capitalise on the expertise within a number of Faculties and Departments, such as Classics, Divinity, Philosophy, Archaeology and Anthropology, Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, and the History and Philosophy of Science. The programme will also draw upon a range of museum resources in Cambridge, such as the Museum of Classical Archaeology, Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, and the Fitzwilliam Museum.
Credits info
The University of Cambridge does not use a credit system for the awarding of its internal degrees, and cannot award credit directly for its International Summer School Programmes. Students wishing to obtain credit as a result of our evaluation should consult their own institutions in advance about the acceptability of the Summer School evaluation for credit purposes.
