The Literature Summer School, now in its 30th year, gives its participants an experience of 'Cambridge English', with its emphasis on small group teaching, close attention to the words on the page, and radical inquiry into why literature matters. The academic programme%E2%80%A2 Four special subject courses (two for each week) %E2%80%A2 Plenary course GH0: Comedy and Tragedy%E2%80%A2 General evening lectures Special subject coursesThe core of your programme will be your chosen special subject courses, each meeting five times. This allows for close and continuing discussion, and you will be expected to have done substantial preparatory reading before you arrive in Cambridge.'Cambridge English%E2%80%99 has, since the 1930s, been distinguished by detailed attention to the text and students should expect the discipline of close reading to be the foundation of all work in the classes. However widely discussion ranges during classes, lecturers and students will normally have texts open for continual reference, illustration and analysis.Plenary lecturesYou attend a plenary lecture each teaching day. These lectures are given by distinguished guest speakers and address the theme Interpretations.The lectures draw on writing of many different kinds and periods, and offer you a rich variety of voices, approaches, and models of critical thought. Taken as a whole, this course of lectures will bring fresh perspectives to familiar masterpieces and encourage exploration in new directions.
