The International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT) is an independent, international health professional organisation, which promotes and supports the rehabilitation of torture victims and works for the prevention of torture worldwide.

Based in Denmark and with a Liaison office in Brussels, the IRCT supports and collaborates with a global network of rehabilitation centres and programmes, represented in every region of the world. While recognising the special responsibility of the health professions in the rehabilitation and prevention of torture, the IRCT strongly advocates that the work against torture requires the efforts of all, at every level of society. TASKS TO BE PERFORMED BY THE INTERN DURING THE INTERNSHIP

Direct support to Head of IRCT Liaison Office, including:

* Attending relevant NGO/UN meetings (anti-torture NGOs, Human Rights NGOs), European Parliament meetings, hearings or sessions, European Commission (Relex, EuropeAid, etc) meetings, etc.,

* Drafting meeting reports,

* Research and monitoring of EU intuitions, the UN, Refugees, and Human Rights issues

* Support to lobbying strategy of the IRCT General Secretariat (drafting letters, statements, articles, etc.),

* Contribution to the IRCT newsletter,

* Desk support to project review (in case EU call for proposals launched during internship period),

* Support to establishment and functioning of the IRCT funding database.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

* Knowledge of the functioning of EU institutions and the United Nations

* Good research skills

* Human Rights/Humanitarian studies

* Fluent English, Good French

* Sensitivity to NGO concerns and functioning

IDEAL INTERNSHIP PERIOD: January 2008 to June 2008

REMUNERATION: This internship will be remunerated with 750 Euros per month.
