International Relations: Security, Conflict and Peace

The International Relations pathway will provide you with the opportunity to engage with some of the most challenging and pertinent aspects of core theoretical and empirical debates in this discipline. You will explore the evolution of security, both as a concept, policy, and practice. You will consider how various schools of thought contribute to the understanding and interpretation of security, conflict, and peace.The module aims to encourage students to explore some of the most topical issues in International Relations and will investigate the causes of recent and ongoing conflicts in the global context. It will address how sustainable peace might be built in regions such as the Balkans and the Middle East.You will also engage with the latest debates related to:%E2%80%A2%09security and intricacies of strategy%E2%80%A2%09ongoing international and local efforts to achieve peace in the aftermath of violence%E2%80%A2%09challenges of uncontrolled migration%E2%80%A2%09a lack of developmentTeaching will be delivered by leading experts and will adopt an interactive format of lectures and seminars.Key readingsAlan Collins, Contemporary Security Studies (3rd ed. Undergraduate students with a GPA of 3.0 or above; postgraduate students with an interest in the subject are also welcome.
Course aim
The University of Exeter International Summer School is an opportunity to take a bespoke, interdisciplinary academic programme with students from around the world. The programme is accredited, worth 7.5 ECTS and also features an orientation in London, social events in Exeter and day trips to iconic UK destinations.

GBP 2445: Programme fees include tuition, accommodation, meals and a social programme including a weekend in London, events on campus and day trips to Bath and St Ives.
