The University of the West of Scotland is offering students from its European partner institutions the opportunity to study for FREE at the University during the summer and experience a worthwhile learning, social and cultural package.
The University''s Summer School for EU students comprises short courses (modules) that are studied on a full-time basis over a six-week period.
Students can study 2 modules from a range of options in: Business, Mathematics, Engineering & Science, Computing and Business English, with the study counting towards academic credit under the European Credit Transfer Scheme (ECTS).

Tuition
The cost of the EU Summer School is L360. Tuition is offered free of charge. However, all students must pay the package price of L360, which covers accommodation, administration costs and excursions. This special rate is based on block bookings of accommodation in University residences and preferential rates for excursions. The University regrets that it cannot offer partial refunds for late arrival or early departure.
Duration/Timetable
The majority of the summer modules run from 14 July to 22 August 2008, inclusive - individual module descriptors with more details will be published here soon. Classes will run during the day, between 9.30am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. There will be a total of 12 hours class contact time per week.
Module registration and enrolment will take place on Monday 14 July 2008. Payment in full will be required at enrolment.
Module assessment will be a combination of examinations and coursework. Examinations will take place during the last week of the Summer School.
Details of final module time tabling will be available shortly.
Students can choose 2 modules from the University''s range on offer to complement their studies at their own university.
Module choice is subject to student numbers and to compatibility of module selections with regard to time tabling.
Who Can Apply?
All EU students studying at a European institution. Students will be expected to have a good command of written and spoken English.

Social Events
As part of the Summer School for EU students, social outings and trips are planned to give students a taste of life in Scotland and the chance to see some of the country''s outstanding scenery. Trips to the City of Edinburgh and to Stirling are currently proposed, as is an End of Summer School.
Accommodation
Summer School students will stay in one of the University''s self-catering halls of residence, either at Underwood Residence which is located on campus, or at the Thornly Park Student Village, 2 miles from the main University campus and next to the University sports centre. Regular bus services run from Thornly Park to the main campus. The bus service costs around L2.70 for a daily ticket, L8.50 for a weekly ticket, and L32 for a 32 day ticket. All tickets can be purchased directly from the bus driver. The bus stop is directly across the road from Thornly Park Student Village.
The residences comprise flats with 3-6 individual student bedrooms, with shared dining, kitchen, bathroom/shower room and toilet facilities. There is a laundry in the residences and on the main campus. Students on the Summer School will have free membership of the University''s sports centre. There is a small charge for use of some of the facilities. The cost for 6 weeks accommodation is L360.
At Underwood Residence, heating, lighting, hot water and the powering of the fridge are included in the accommodation price. For the provision of electricity, there is a coin meter box in each flat that students must contribute to. At Thornly Park Student Village all power and electricity is included in the accommodation price.
There is wireless internet access at Thornly Park Student Village. There is no internet access at Underwood Residence. The address and telephone numbers of each residence are as follows:

Arrival
Students should plan to arrive in Paisley on Saturday 12 July (for courses starting 14 July) in order to settle into the accommodation prior to the start of the course. Students who wish to arrive earlier than this, e.g. from Wednesday 9 July onwards, will have to pay a charge of approximately L9 per night for each additional night. Accommodation must be vacated by Saturday 23 August 2008.
