This course is offered by the Netherlands Institute for Higher Education and Scientific Research in Morocco (NIMAR) as part of the Radboud University Summer School. The course will be held in Rabat, Morocco.BackgroundMorocco is transitioning from a traditional Islamic society to a more modern one. This process, however, is happening at different speeds in different parts of the country. Morocco is part of the Maghreb, the Arab world, the Mediterranean and Africa; disparate identities that influence the country both internally and externally. These processes, which aim for political or societal transformation, can influence a wide range of social processes, such as democratisation, societal development, environmental consciousness, human rights, freedom of press and corruption.Summer school courseThis one-week summer course in Rabat will delve into the ongoing processes in Moroccan society. NIMAR staff members and external experts will hold presentations and lectures during the morning sessions. The afternoon sessions will take place at NIMAR or in the form of excursions to political parties, NGO's or other exponents of civil society.

After this course you will be able to: 1. Understand and describe the organisation of the Moroccan state and society2. Identify and describe symptoms of the transition process in Moroccan society3. Find your way in Moroccan civil society4. Understand, describe and discuss the dilemmas surrounding social transition
