"Structural Equation Modeling" by Professor Rex B. Kline from Concordia University, Quebec, Canada. Professor Kline is very well known by his books on Structural Equation Modeling, which has been translated and published in many languages. With LISREL, the course will cover both the conceptual and the practical aspects of implementing SEM and confirmatory factor analysis.

Period
25-08-2014 - 30-08-2014 (1 weeks)

Target group
Course targets; students (usually master and PhD) with basic statistical knowledge and researchers in the social science area; political science, sociology, business, psychology, economics, marketing and social work.rnThe course targets also the non academic participants who are working for government, NGO's, research companies, who would like to know SEM efficiently for their work purposes.

Course aim
This one-week seminar deals with the principles, assumptions, strengths, limitations, and rnapplications of structural equation modeling (SEM). Basic SEM techniques, including path rnanalysis, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and full LISREL, or structural regression (SR), rnmodels are covered. Some familiarity with basic statistical techniques, such as multiple regression rnand exploratory factor analysis, is assumed, but higher levels of quantitative knowledge are not rnrequired. The presentation of topics will be conceptually rather than mathematically oriented, and rnexamples of the application of SEM to different kinds of actual research problems are considered. rnThere will also be an opportunity for those with no experience using a computer tool for SEM to rnpractice on-site with the student version of LISREL. Even if participants eventually use a different rnSEM computer tool in their own work, principles learned from working with LISREL will generalize rnto related applications. rn

Credits
15.0 ECTS creditsThe course is not automatically examined although provision can be made to take a Course Exam. When students take and pass course exams, Istanbul University grants 15 ECTS credits. Participants from countries participating in the Bologna process should be able to use these credits for their M.A. at their home university. - See more at: http://www.istql.com/index.php/general-information#sthash.mPONAmSR.dpuf
